While great wine starts in the vineyard, it is brought to completion under the watchful eye of the winemaker.  At Almaden Vineyards, we rely upon the expertise of our professional winemaking team to oversee the entire production of our wines, from the vineyard to the glass.  Our winemaking approach can best be described as using the finest resources available to transform our high quality California grapes into great tasting wines.

How does this process work?  During Crush (the harvest season when grapes are crushed to yield grape juice for fermentation), winemakers and their teams work furiously to plan grape deliveries, to monitor the fermentations which convert grape juice into wine and to taste the young wines.

Following Crush, the winemaking team works throughout the year to blend individual wine lots to produce our high quality Almaden wines.  This process involves blending trials and tasting to identify the combination of wines that will result in the highest quality finished blend.  As a team, these experts constantly monitor the quality of our wines all year long as they are stored, blended and packaged.

What does this mean for you?  In the end, all decisions made by Almaden’s winemaking team culminate in the creation of a balanced glass of Almaden wine that is both refreshing and satisfying.
