At
Almaden Vineyards, we have long believed that the best wine comes from
the best vineyards. In the
1850’s, the founders of Almaden, Etienne Thee and Charles Lefranc,
realized that California was an excellent place to grow grapes and make
wines. They helped develop
California viticulture by bringing cuttings of high quality grape
varieties from Europe to California.
Why
California? First the land
itself sets the stage, with rich soils that provide all the nutrients
the grape vines need to flourish. Then the natural climate brings it all together, with long
sunny days and cool nights that ripen the fruit to perfection by
summer’s end.
At
Almaden, we source our grapes from some of the finest vineyards in the
San Joaquin Valley near our wineries in Escalon and Madera, California.
Our winemakers take only the best grapes from each vintage to
create our classic Almaden wines. Our
winemakers and viticulturists work closely with Almaden’s grape
growers throughout the year to assure that the grapes that we receive
from our California vineyards will meet Almaden’s exacting quality
standards.
The
result? Classic wines that
reflect the perfect growing conditions of California’s celebrated
vineyards — red wines with rich character, white wines with a crisp
and refreshing finish, and blush wines with just the right amount of
sweetness. Whatever your
taste, Almaden offers a wine you’re sure to enjoy.
